Eastern Michigan University’s Apparel and Textiles and Merchandising department students under the tutelage of assistant professor Cathryn Amidei is putting on their 12^th annual Fashion show.

The 2010 Exposure Runway show, is an annual event put on by student in the class to gain experience in promoting and producing a quality show. In order for the show to run smoothly student committees were created in hospitality, production, set and stage design, and model coordination.

Im also planning on Interviewing three student or people in the Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor area about their sense of style like how Real Detroit Weekly does when they see people on the streets and they like their stlye they publish a little bio about the person and what and where they purchased their clothing.

I aslo plan to discuss with one of our own Eastern Fashion merchandising tudents on their goals and what they plan to do with their designs after graduating from Eastern. As well as aggregate from either Teen Vogue or Vogue Magizines

YPSILANTI, Mich. — In our digital journalism class we had to create a video on our niche blog or create a welcome video stating who we are and what we do.

As I created my blog I used Corel Studios were I uploaded my video from my phone to my computer and began the editing process in which I used the airbrushed and the anti-shake edit devices on Corel. I also dabbled a little with the color of the video by using the contrast and brightness. I also chose to add words to my video to give it some color.

One of the things I learned in the process was to not use a phone to video record events, because there are so many errors that can occur during the process, from hearing the sound of your phone messages go off, from unexpected interruptions from people walking down the hallway as I was recording the video.

Another thing I learned from the assignment was how to upload videos to Blogger I still havent figured out how to get the other four videos off which have been the most difficult part of this video project. I also learned that Macs work better than PCs when it comes to uploading  videos because I did the same things on my PC at home and wasnt successful until I went to class to get help from my professor using the Mac computers were we able to successfully upload my video project to WordPress.

I think of all the assignments this was the hardest becasue the directions weren’t helpful in showing me how to embed vidoes into wordpress one exception though is blogger, anad that was was why I chose to put my assignment on blogger.

After reading my feedback on the blog niche I chose to aggregate, I got even more excited that people were enthused about fashion and thought that the idea was cool. So I’m really looking forward to this as my project even a student in the class has offered some contact information about boutiques in the metro Detroit area. I’m really looking forward to talking with random people the most I think that will make the blog interesting because it goes to the heart of advocate journalism and allowing journalist and their viewers to come together on a conscience level and talk about things they like, what could be done better (in the fashion world of course).

This gives budding fashionista’s an opportunity to get exposed and for lesser know boutiques to shine brightly

The whole premise for my essay was to talk about the negative images perpetuated in the media towards young adolescent girls and relay that to bigger problems we are facing in Journalism with the evidence of specific examples of what images we see women play in movies, cartoons, and television series. I related the negative images of women to show how they are able to influence younger audiences because that’s what they see consistently,  which leads to the idea that we should monitor the media which would take away the rights of or individual freedoms of expression in which the only way outside views that oppose such standards are seldom seen due to corporate interests and lack of money were they can only publish their idea’s on local cable television networks or in alternative magazines where viewership is low. Hope you enjoy my take on the media and its controversial stand on who really controls the media.

What I would like do with this blog is to  do stories about different boutiques  on what they offer thats specifically sets them apart from other stores, as well when and why and how they got started. I would also like to take pictures of regular random people on and off campus with permission of course  and ask them a few question about their personal style and what, where, and how much each item cost that they had own that particular day, just to bring a different perspective to the fashion world than what the designers bring. I was really looking at Tavi’s Blog Style Rookie for inspiration about how I should set up my blog for this particular assignment.

Most of my aggregated news stories will probably come from magazines that cater to the fashion world, as well as visiting stores around and off campus sites to get an overall perspective of the fashion industry. At the end of or Blogging I was hoping to lead up to a feature story about an Eastern student studying or have had studied fashion here at Eastern and what they’re doing know and where they hope to go from there.

I would also like to either do a niche blog on art galleries leading to a specific piece of aesthetic art created in and for a different medium something like the Ice House in Detroit. Also would like to either do a blog about the different organizations on campus and what they do and how does it benefit the campus etc

Bradley a pediatrician who has had a practice in Lewes Delaware for 10 years as well as a license to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida, was  arrested and indicted in December on charges ranging from sexual exploitation, rape, child welfare and assault.

Attorney General Beau Biden stated that Bradley was indicted on 471 counts of sexual abuse based on  “digital and video evidence,” found in Bradley’s home he told CNN Radio.

Bradley’s attorney Eugene Maurer Jr., will defending his client based on mental Health, saying “Most of the evidence comes from videotapes its kind of hard to argue with videotapes.

This is a great story more so for parents to be aware and to take more time to become involved within there children’s lives. It’s definitely a lessons many parents to not put so much trust in one individual when it comes to your loved ones especially someone so young. It also is a wake up call for employers who need to make sure that the men or women that they hire are respectable, at least with some since of remorse/moral when it comes to such atrocious acts such as these. to look up further information about Bradley please check out the New York Times article.

Watching both films “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices” and “The Corporation” both films discuss the concept of cost externalization. We also learn the difference and can examine the differences of an ideal-typical perfect market model and the ideal-typical imperfect market model, where in which we can determine which model, is closest to our own economic reality and why it matters at least why it should matter to you.

Here’s a brief synopsis of a what a market system is, a market is a system of relationships governed by norms (some informal as well), and within this system are the functioning roles of the buyer and the seller; were a relationship only exists because of the exchange of commodities, were each commodity has its own distinct market.

Within these markets can range from perfect to highly imperfect, defining the ideal-typical imperfect market as a monopoly or monopsony (labor monopoly), in which there is only one buyer and one seller for the entire amount of a particular commodity. The ideal-typical perfect market is based on pure competition:

Each of an infinite number of sellers possesses an infinitesimally small portion of a commodity on the market, and each of an infinitely large number of buyers can purchase only an infinitesimally small portion of it.

Now that we know this little bit of information lets talk about corporations when they were chartered in the 1800′s they were created as a gift to the people to serve the public good, regulations during that time stated who, what, and how much they could earn or do.

After watching the films the market systems that reflect the economic realities of the U.S. would have to be the ideal-typical imperfect market. As stated in the previously ideal-typical imperfect market consisted of monopolies which usually had exclusive control of a commodity or service in a particular market, or control that makes possible the manipulation of prices.

A great example of an ideal-typical imperfect market model would be Wal-Mart. Where when a Wal-Mart comes into a community they drive down retail value by three billion dollars a year; effectively to the point were mom and pop stores can’t compete with the prices of Wal-Mart even though they may be more knowledgeable about specifics (i.e. plumbing, gardening etc) compared to Wal-Mart associates.

Another thing that makes corporations like Wal-Mart an ideal-typical market is they can eliminate competitors (mom and pop shops) easily by reducing expenses. In order for Wal-Mart to continue to offer lower prices they must understand that the only way to generate capital is if the cost of production (labor) are less than the revenue in sales, in keeping with this model Wal-Mart cuts the cost of labor by shipping production/manufacturing jobs over sea’s to countries where cheap labor can be exploited by paying workers 18 to 70 cents to the dollar.

While here in the U.S. upper level management decides to cut jobs, and keep most of their employee’s as part-time, thus reducing the cost of production significantly allowing Wal-Mart to continue to sell products at a lower price than their competitors.

But there is hope as seen in the films because you do have communities that resist the building of Wal-Marts in their towns because they know what this monopoly can do and what it’s capable of doing: effectively shutting down competition and causing property values to go down, a disregard to environmental dangers, the crime rates on the premises of Wal-Marts across the country has risen (those without security personnel). Since we have counties willing to resist the growing monopolies of Wal-Mart it helps to balance out the optimal point between the two markets.

Maybe with this kind imitative like shown in the film maybe we could get ride of greedy bank CEO’s on Wall Street other corporations that destroy the very ideas of free market trade and stop looking at corporation as a “person” and get back to the days were corporations served us maybe we wouldn’t be in the economic crisis where in know.
